Probiotic/Flora is a term that denotes the naturally occurring,
"friendly" bacteriathat contribute to the health and balance
of the intestinal tract. These cultures of microorganisms are able to multiply
in the intestinal tract to create a balanced microflora (healthy intestinal
culture), thereby preventing the overgrowth of pathogenic bacteria in the
intestinal tract. In addition, these "friendly" bacteria produce a
natural antibiotic-like substance called bactericine, which helps to eliminate
unwanted coliforms. This results in a healthy intestinal lining that is capable
of optimum nutrient absorption.
Researchers have found links between bacterial imbalances in the
gastrointestinal tract and many illnesses. If you have ever experienced any of
the following symptoms or illnesses, you may have a bacterial imbalance:
Chronic fatigue / Diarrhea or constipation / Intestinal gas & indigestion
/ Rapid onset of osteoporosis / Poor immune response / Chronic bladder
infections or vaginal infections / High cholesterol levels / Candida or yeast
infections / Allergies / Skin conditions / Menstrual complaints / Chronic bad
breath / Vitamin B deficiencies / Sensitivity to dairy products / Viral and
bacterial infections / Colds & flu
Environmental factors and the consumption of certain foods and products can
also cause the growth of pathogenic (harmful) bacteria, some of which are as
follows:
Antibiotic usage
Excessive consumption of sugar and refined flours
Over consumption of carbohydrates
Intake of chlorinated water
Excessive alcohol consumption
Use of over-the-counter and/or prescription anti-inflammatory drugs
and painkillers
Frequent consumption of colas and other carbonated beverages
Excessive consumption of fatty foods and fatty meats
High stress levels
Exposure to chemicals or pollutants
Supplementing your usual diet with a probiotic supplement, rich in beneficial
bacteria, can prevent conditions such as these from effecting your health. Flora
Source contains 16 different strains of these beneficial intestinal floras, and
is guaranteed to contain 16 billion viable cells per capsule at time of
manufacture.

Tumor and ulcer suppression
Supportive
therapy for intestinal infections and disturbances, helping to reduce
inflammation
Bifidobacterium breve
Beneficial for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease
Prevents rotavirus induced diarrhea and helps maintain a healthy immune system
Found to eradicate Campylobacter jejuni from the stools of children with enteritis
Bifidobacteria infantis
Inhibitory effect on some strains of E. coli
Protects against gastroenteritis (inflammation of the stomach and bowels)
Useful in the prevention and therapy of solid tumors (breast tumors)
Bifidobacteria lactis
Antimicrobial properties that provide
resistance to oral salmonella typhimurium
Enhancement of natural immune function
May help alleviate constipation,
prevent diarrhea, and decrease chronic inflammation of the sigmoid colon
Bifidobacterium longum
Able to eliminate harmful, cancer causing nitrates commonly found in foods
Shown to inhibit the development and growth of colon, liver, and breast
cancers in laboratory animals
Lactobacillus acidophilus
Found primarily in the small intestine
Helps keep
your heart healthy by helping to lower cholesterol levels in the blood
- assimilates part of the ingested cholesterol, making it unavailable
for absorption into the blood stream
Inhibits
yeast infections, improves chronic constipation and/or diarrhea by
normalizing the digestive tract, aids in nutrient uptake (especially
calcium), prevents food poisoning by targeting harmful bacteria, and has
strong antimicrobial activity
Helpful for
those with food, chemical, and environmental sensitivities; nutrient
malabsorption; and inflammation of the small intestine and/or stomach
Helps break
down bacterial enzymes and potential cancer-causing agents
Gives support
to the body during and after the use of antibiotics, steroids,
chemotherapy, and intestinal cleansing programs
Produces
B-complex vitamins (enzymes that help digest proteins and fats) and
natural antibiotic substances that can inhibit eleven disease-causing
bacterium
Found primarily in the small intestine
Lactobacillus acidophilus (DDS-1) - The L. Acidophilus "Superstrain"
Same benefits Lactobacillus acidophilus
The acidophilus "superstrain" that has in general a stronger
microbial activity
Produces natural antibiotics (lactocidin & acidophilin), thereby,
increasing your immune system's resistance against bad bacteria and
fungus i.e. Candida albicans, Salmonella, E. coli, and Staphylococcus
aureus
Lactobacillus brevis
Produces lactic acid
Synthesizes Vitamins D & K
Lactobacillus bulgaricus
Supports friendly bacteria, enhancing the digestibility of proteins and milk
products
Aids in the production of natural antibiotic substances, inhibiting
undesirable organisms, and helps to correct the undesirable effects of
prescription antibiotics
Used for years to treat gastrointesinal disorders such as
enterocolitis, used
successfully for vaginal herpes (Herpes simplex labilis), mouth lesions (Aphthous
stomatitis), ulcers of the cornea (dendritic ulceration) and genital herpes
(Herpes progenitalis)
Lactobacillus casei
Potent protective activity against Listeria bacteria (bacteria that can
contaminate shellfish, birds, spiders, and mammals), which have been found to
cause the inflammation and infection of the brain and spinal cord (Spinal
Meningitis).
Inhibits activity in tumor cells and stimulates beneficial activity in normal
cells
Lactobacillus gasseri
Helps to inhibit the binding of H. pylori
Reduces inflammation
Supports already healthy cholesterol levels
Lactobacillus paracasei
Promotes the growth and fermentation of friendly bacteria
Aids in the prevention and treatment of
certain types of diarrhea
Enhancement of natural immune function
Lactobacillus plantarum
Supports friendly bacteria
Involved in the production of short-chain fatty acids, and the amino
acids; arginine, cysteine, and glutamine
Helps produce lactolin, a natural antibiotic
Synthesizes the amino acid, L-lysine, which is anti-viral
Lactobacillus rhamnosus (Lactobacillus GG)
Causes the body to manufacture its own natural antibiotic substances to fight disease, increasing a person's resistance to viral infections and preventing diarrhea
Triggers the body to produce lymphocytes, white blood cells which fight infection
According to "Applied and Environmental Microbiology," can alleviate or prevent the following symptoms: Lactose intolerance / Viral and bacterial diarrhea / Adverse effects of abdominal radiotherapy / Constipation / Inflammatory bowel disease / Food allergies
bullet
According to the "Canadian Journal of Microbiology" it has been shown to increase resistance to yeast and urinary tract infections
bullet
According to the "European Journal of Oral Sciences" it has been shown to inhibit the growth of a variety of bacterial species, including streptococci
Maintains health by releasing lactic acid, which lowers the pH, so that harmful bacteria, which thrive in higher acidic environments, are kept under control
Helps destroy harmful bacteria, also helping in the absorption of minerals by aiding in the digestion of lactose
Successfully used for treatment of Clostridium Difficile Colitis (C. diff bacteria colitis)
- bacterium that survives antibiotic treatment
Lactobacillus salivarius
Produces a high amount of lactic acid, thus completely inhibiting the growth
of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) bacteria, which are now known
to be the major cause of peptic ulcers.
Effective against Salmonella typhimurium
Lactobacillus lactis
Inhibits both gram positive (eg. listeria) and gram negative (eg. E. coli) pathogens
Strengthen immunity
Alleviate symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
Streptococcus thermophilis
